PÁLFFY PALÁC CLUB

History of The Pálffy Palace Club Restaurant

The Pálffy Palace was built by the Lamintger family in the 17th century. In the second half of the 19th century it underwent a considerable renovation project on behalf of the Valdstejn family, and was subsequently purchased by the Palffy family from which it derives its name. In the beginning of the 20th century the palace was acquired by the State and it served as an archive for ancient manuscripts. During the period of the communist regime the building was used as a storehouse for socialist propaganda books and leaflets.

After the Velvet Revolution in 1989 the Palace was transferred to the property of the Prague Conservatory, and this institution continues to reside in the building until today. The restaurant was opened in 1994 in the former school dining room by Roman Řezníček. As part of the reconstruction efforts in 1996 the restaurant was thoroughly redecorated in its present style.

An evening at Pálffy Palace is no ordinary affair. This is truly a restaurant for the big occasion. A fi ne setting for wedding anniversaries, special birthdays, romantic evenings and even proposals!
Two mighty timber doors guard the entrance to the palace. Step inside and climb the large stone staircase to your right. On the fi rst fl oor, a beautiful candlelit dining area awaits, with soft classical music fi lling the restaurant. Pálffy Palace is impressive, but not imposing. Tables are wonderfully dressed with candelabras, fresh cut fl owers, and fi ne bohemian crystal. Large bowls of fruit and plant-fi lled vases decorate the room, while pictures of numerous composers adorn the walls (the palace also functions as a music conservatoire).

In the summer months, the restaurant extends onto a large terrace, providing a fi ne outdoor setting for either lunch or dinner. Palffy Palace offers excellent European cuisine and impeccable service, along with an extensive range of fi ne wines. A truly palatial experience.
